Migration partnerships exist throughout the UK in order to ensure that immigration policy and its implementation meets local needs. The Northern Ireland Strategic Migration Partnership (NISMP) was launched in October 2011.
NISMP brings together representatives from the UK Border Agency; NI Local Government Association (NILGA); OFMDFM; the Departments of Education, Employment and Learning, Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Justice, and Social Development; the NI Housing Executive, PSNI, the NI Human Rights Commission, NI Congress of Trade Unions, the Law Centre NI, the Multi-Cultural Resource Centre (now renamed Bryson Intercultural) and the Community Relations Council. It is a forum where local issues can be raised.
The NISMP website www.migrationni.org/is a hub for finding up-to-date information on immigration issues and contact details for relevant agencies and groups. EMBRACE was the community organisation chosen to feature in the first NISMP newsletter, Migration News, January 2012. See www.migrationni.org/DataEditorUploads/Migration%20News%20Issue%201.1.pdf
